Second Site 1.9 (Preview Release)

August 30, 2005

This is from a few weeks ago, but if your using Second Site you will probably be interested. There is a version 1.9 “Preview Release”

To see the changes in 1.9, you can view the author’s chang log. The Change Log has more than 40 entries. Truth be told, most of the changes are relatively small, but most were requested by Second Site users so there is a good chance you’ll like some of them.

Retrospect-GDS 2.0 (Final)

August 23, 2005

Retrospect-GDS 2.0 Final is now available. Retrospect-GDS is a web application for displaying genealogical information. The design of the application is modular so that new features can be added easily. A template system is included to make it easy to modify the look and feel. Many popular genealogy reports are available in both HTML and PDF formats. Retrospect-GDS also supports multiple languages.

Requires: PHP 4.3.0, Web Server, Database (MySQL 3.x, MySQL 4.x, PostgreSQL 7.x, Microsoft SQL (all versions), Oracle 11i (probably other versions as well), or SQLite)

Developer’s Note:

This release contains lots of little fixes, most of which are changes to the various language translations. In addition, we have a new Norwegian language translation as I mentioned previously in this blog.

There is one major change from the previous beta’s that you should know about. All PDF reports have been removed because the FPDF library that is used to generate the PDF’s is not compatible with the new Unicode language back-end. This has caused some problems and after discussing it with several people in the community I made the decision to pull the PDF report feature from Retrospect-GDS until a suitable replacement library can be found.
