The Next Generation of Genealogy Sitebuilding - New Templates

November 12, 2005

From Darrin Lythgoes, creator of The Next Generation of Genealogy Sitebuilding:

One more note: Last time I offered $25 to anyone who could submit a new template. Only one person took me up on it, but it turned out to be a good one (template #5). The offer still stands, so if you’ve got something, I’d love to see your work!

The Next Generation of Genealogy Sitebuilding v5.0.8

November 11, 2005

Yesterday saw The Next Generation of Genealogy Sitebuilding v5.0.8 released. Version 5.0.8 is mainly a bug fix release.

The Next Generation of Genealogy SitebuildingĀ© (”TNG”) is a powerful way to manage and display your genealogy data on the Internet, all without generating a single page of HTML. Instead, your information is stored in MySQL database tables and dynamically displayed in attractive fashion with PHP (a scripting language).

Developer’s Notes:
* As mentioned in there, the one small change in text.php means that if you support other languages, you should get the updates for those languages as well. The new message has been inserted (in English) into all the respective text.php files. If any of you speak those languages and can translate that message (”Chart width”) for me, that would be great.
* If you downloaded the French full version of 5.0.7, you can use the English 5.0.8 upgrade to get your code current, then get the French language packet for the new text message.

Themes - The Next Generation of Genealogy Sitebuilding

September 25, 2005

Darrin Lythgoe is looking for a few good theme designers for The Next Generation of Genealogy Sitebuilding software.

He posted this message to the TNG mailing list:

I said last time that I wanted to add new template designs, but that I didn’t have time to create them myself, so I was offering to pay $25 each for a few new good designs. That would include just a home page, a header/footer and the style sheet. If you’d like to submit the design you’re using but you’re not sure how to make it “generic”, I can do that for you, so don’t let that be an excuse. I know some of you are excellent designers, so speak up! If the fee I’m offering isn’t enough, let me know that too!

$25 would cover several months of hosting or a future upgrade (or a new genealogy program). You can contact Darrin through the TNG site.
