Version 1.0.9 of GenSmarts is now available. GenSmarts is a utility that analyzes your genealogy data and suggests avenues of research, and can even do online look-ups. It will provide specific information on individuals, including where and what time periods to look for information on them, including specific records to research and where those records are located.
It works with the following genealogy applications: Family Tree Maker, PAF, Legacy, TMG, RootsMagic, Ancestral Quest, and Ancestry Family Tree.
Version 1.0.9 Notes:
Version 1.0.9 adds over 150,000 additional books and microfilm of US interest from the Family History Library in Salt Lake city.
We’ve extended the preview of the “shelf list” report to include the Family History Library, so you can print call number/microfilm roll number lists in preparation for research trips to Salt Lake.
Also, we’ve integrated the “go to card catalog” linking preview to include FHL as well. So you can hop directly from a GenSmarts suggestion to review the FHL’s card catalog entry for the book/film in question. To try this out, narrow the TO DO list to just suggestions for the Family History Library using the “AVAILABLE AT RESEARCH LOCATIONS BELOW” section of the filter. Now right click on a suggestion and you’ll see the new “go to” options.
Due to all the additional data, it’s a bit bigger download (a total of 7-9mb vs. the normal 2-6mb) than earlier updates. However, we implmented a few performance improvements and suspect load/analyze times might be, if anything, faster than before.
The “preview” features above also supports Allen County Library, as did version 1.0.8.
If you have any problems updating automatically (through GenSmarts), please refer to the release notes.
