Family Tree Legends’ Parent Company Up For Sale

Pearl Street Software, makers of Family Tree Legends among other things, is now up for sale, according to Eastman’s Online Genealogy Newsletter. Family Tree Legends is a Windows genealogy application, and fairly popular. The founders/developers still consider a viable genealogy application (and it’s not just family Tree Legends, if you read the article linked at Eastman’s above, there are several other areas involved in the sale), however they want to pursue a different opportunity.

If you have ever wanted to sell genealogy software and didn’t want to develop from the ground up, here is your chances.

Family Historian 3.0 – Just About to Ship

Family Historian from Calico Pie, LTD, will be available at the end of the month in the UK, and will take a little longer to reach distribution outside of the UK. This is both the boxed version and the upgrade CD version, and the date is expected to be March 28th. With this release of the genealogy program, they are dropping support for Windows 95 and Windows NT, for technical reasons. It runs on Windows 98/ME/2000/XP as well as 64-bit versions of Windows.

You can read about some of the new things in 3.0 in a story we posted back in November here.

PhpGedView 4.0 beta 6

The beta for PhpGedView has received its sixth and potentially final release. PhpGedView is an online genealogy program that utilizes PHP, MySQL, etc., in order to allow collaboration between multiple people over the internet. You can edit all of the information available, as well as add to it, you can create privacy restrictions (logins required, information of living individuals restricted, etc.). It doesn’t look like anything was changed, just bug fixes and final packaging to test before the Final Release of PhpGedView 4.0. You can download and test it here.
